It seems like only yesterday that cosmos was only available in summer, and came in incongruent shades of purple, lavender and white, on ungainly, lanky and weak stems. Today Mayesh Wholesale Florist has several “new” varieties, preeminently Chocolate Cosmos and Apricot Cosmos.
The Chocolate Cosmos is a delight with simple dark burgundy petals that glisten like the richest velvet, and an eye that is almost black. Probably the most surprising feature, especially for those unfamiliar with the flower, is its rich chocolate perfume!!
You know the old saying when you see and smell a beautiful flower - it's almost good enough to eat! That is exactly how you will feel about the Chocolate Cosmos. Many of you will be familiar with the Cosmos which we grow as a half-hardy annual - tall, almost feathery growth. This chocolate version is a perennial with flowers about 5cm across, colored deep reddish-brown and smelling like Mr Cadbury's finest dark chocolate!
