Columbine
Syn. Aquilegia

It's a sure sign that spring is here, and summer is on the way, when the columbines start blooming. Columbines are seasonal, appearing in spring and lasting only to early summer. They are one of a diminishing group of flowers that are available only at a specific time of year, so take advantage of this unique bloom now.

The delicate country flower with which we are familiar in the floral industry, so often associated with English country gardens, has its origins in the Rocky Mountains . First collected in the 17 th century, many species of this flower could be found growing from Canada all the way down to New Mexico , and over the subsequent two hundred years the seeds found their way back to Europe , and thence into cottage gardens.
