Kumquats
Fortunella Margarita

These neat little ornamental fruits are gaining popularity as a design item. Kumquats are cousins of the citrus family, and resemble miniature oranges, although with a slightly more elliptical shape. Originally native to S.E. China and Indonesia , they are now commercially grown in California , primarily for production of preserves.

The fruits nestle in attractive glossy, dark green foliage, so it is easy to employ this item in any number of ways.

As with most fruiting branches, hydration and preparation are most important, in order to prevent the fruits from dropping.
It is recommended that the stems be cut with a sharp tool, preferably bypass pruners, and placed in a hydrating solution, that has a wetting agent or emulsifier (a couple of drops of detergent in 2 galls. of water!).
