(Hamiltonianus aka Spindle Tree)
Euonymus is an interesting family of large shrubs and trees, which may be split into two groupings, one being deciduous and the other being evergreen. Throughout the year we sell the evergreen types for their variegated foliages (euonymus fortunei), but in the fall we feature the deciduous varieties with their striking fruits. Spindle Tree refers to the deciduous types, and got its name from the wood that was used to make spindles prior to the 20 th century.
The Euonymus shown in the photograph here has unusual four lobed antique-pink fruits, with large somewhat serrated mid-green leaves. It is a hardy product, and complements a wide range of fruits and flowers because of the subtle dusty pink coloring. Later in the season, the fruits split and exhibit striking glossy orange seeds, that provide a brilliant contrast to the matte pink fruits.
